Overview

The General English (GE) program at College Avalon is designed to help students build confidence and fluency in the English language for everyday communication, work, travel, and community interaction. This course focuses on developing the four key language skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing— alongside grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary enhancement. Lessons are highly interactive, incorporating real-life communication activities such as discussions, presentations, role-plays, and cultural excursions. The program is ideal for learners who wish to strengthen their overall English ability or progress to further study in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs in Australia.

College Avalon delivers six General English proficiency levels, each designed to support progressive language development:

  2. Elementary
  3. Pre-Intermediate
  4. Intermediate

Students complete a placement test and interview during orientation to determine their starting level.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the General English course, students will be able to:

  • Completion of a placement test and interview prior to course commencement to determine English level.
  • No formal academic qualifications required.

Graduates of the General English course may progress to:

  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP 1 or EAP 2) at College Avalon.
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs such as:

    • ICT60220 – Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (CRICOS 118019J)
